Three counties, different trips

A statewide map can hide very different travel patterns.

New Castle, Kent and Sussex have different settlement patterns, trip lengths, road networks and transit options. A useful comparison starts with the same period and measure. Delaware’s public crash dataset supports county-level exploration, but it is updated monthly, lags recent events by roughly six months, and is not an official police report for any individual collision.

What to keep in view

  • New Castle: urban, suburban and interstate connections
  • Kent: Dover-area, rural and cross-county movement
  • Sussex: coastal, seasonal and rural travel needs
COUNTY DATA

A useful public crash dataset

The Delaware Public Crash Data by County dataset contains reported crash fields, including crash date, crash classification, county, and location coordinates. Its portal description says it is updated monthly and includes crashes through about six months before the update. It is intended for analysis and safety planning; it is not a substitute for an official crash report, and it should not be used to make a definitive claim about an individual incident.

The data portal states that the dataset was updated July 5, 2026, when last checked for this edition. Check the portal metadata for the current update date before comparing recent periods.

How to read this page

We distinguish a source’s reported observation from our interpretation. Where an update is preliminary, approximate or not comparable across geographies, we say so. This page is an explanatory guide, not an official government notice or professional advice.
